Juliana Hatfield releases “Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John”

January 31, 2018 by Samuel Haiman

Tracked by James Bridges and mixed by Pat DiCenso in studio A, Juliana Hatfield’s Olivia Newton-John tribute album has been described as a match made in female-rocker heaven.  Recorded with her longtime rock ‘n’ roll rhythm section of drummer Pete Caldes and bassist Ed Valauskas of the band Gravel Pit, the record showcases both hit songs and lesser-known tracks from Olivia’s catalog.  Describing her admiration for Newton-John to Paste Magazine she admitted “I never lost my love for Olivia. I never hid it.”

For the sale of every album, one dollar will be donated to the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre (ONJ Centre), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing patients with cancer access to leading medical treatment, breakthrough research, and the best in wellness and supportive care.

September 27, 2017 by Rafi

Amanda Palmer and our old friend Sean Slade rolled into Studio A for a couple of days to record a song Amanda wrote with the help of her fans. Proceeds from the sale of the song on Bandcamp went towards hurricane relief in Puerto Rico. Head on over to Amanda’s website to check out the story behind the song. There are even some pictures from the studio in there.

Magen Tracy – Color the Air

September 7, 2017 by Samuel Haiman

Recorded, Mixed and Mastered by Pat DiCenso, Magen Tracy’s 2017 Boston Music Awards nominated song, Color the Air, is described as a cross between Tori Amos and Lucinda Williams.  With soulful vocals, poignant songwriting, and piano-driven pop-rock with a dash of sleazy swagger and alt-country twang, Color the Air is a impassioned expression of a love lost.

A few weeks ago we took delivery of Mitch Easter’s Chamberlin M1. With analog tapes that are a time capsule from a forgotten era, this magical machine has the sounds of vibes, female voices, male voices, cello, harpsichord, violins, flutes, and french horns...
We have a bit of an embarrassment of riches of analog tape samplers at Q, but as you might know or can guess, these beasts are incredibly temperamental and not always on their best behavior, but when they're working well there's nothing quite like these incredible machines.
