Tanya Donnelly’s Swan Song Series is now complete and released. Over the last few years Tanya has stopped in at Q periodically to work on on this series, and the recordings have been released in stages. May 20th marks the digital/cd release of the complete series – the vinyl release is still to come. We’re super pleased to have been involved in recording, mixing, and mastering these songs – all of which are collaborations with other songwriters and musicians – it’s an incredibly diverse body of work!

Tanya Donelly – Wild Love
Wild Love is a co-write with our friend Will Dailey and will appear on Tanya’s 3 CD Swan Song Series set on American Laundromat Records. The song was recorded in one take (take three if memory serves) with Russell Chudnofsky on guitar, Ed Valauskas on bass, and Dean Fisher on drums. Engineered and mixed by Rafi Sofer.
It was debuted by Entertainment Weekly and can be heard here.
Slight Bight – This Again
Slight Bight is a vehicle for Gavin McCarthy’s songs. Gavin’s songs are catchy and tuneful while still allowing for exploration, especially in sections that feature Andrew Stern on guitar. Gavin performs quadruple duty – playing bass, drums, guitar, and singing! Could have named the band Quad Bight.
You might have heard or seen Gavin play drums in Karate, E, The Confessions, Cul de Sac, and many other Boston area indie bands.
Brian Carpenter & The Confessions
Two tracks from Brian Carpenter & The Confessions upcoming debut, The Far End of the World, have been released in the last couple of weeks. The band was tracked in Studio A (to 2″ tape), vocals were overdubbed in Studio B (and elsewhere), and mixed both by Craig Schumacher at his Wavelab Studio in Arizona, and by Rafi Sofer at Q. They have been described as “(a) band that plumbs the darker depths of Americana, creating an “avant-noir” sound in which you can hear faint echoes of modern-day Swans, Timber Timbre, and of course Johnny Cash…”

Helicopter Helicopter – The Modern World
After years of laying low there’s new Helicopter Helicopter out in the world… Not only did the band reunite in Studio B last summer to track a few songs, you’ll notice ex Boston rocker Dave Foy in the video. And they got USA Mike to mix the tune.
