In 2013 Jeff Mellin swung into Q to record this snappy retro duet. Ed V and the Mayor worked this song, which also features Tim Gearan, Andy Plaisted, Eric Salt, Abbey Barrett, and Phil Aiken. Jeff is responsible for the great look and feel of the Q-Dee Rock and Soul 45 series, and he also designed our flaming tape machine T-shirts.
Tanya Donelly – Swan Song Series
Tanya says this about the last installment of the Swan Song series:
So, last official volume, but not the last songs. More to come, as they come: erratically, sporadically, spasmodically.
The songs on these five volumes range wildly in feel and texture… Tanya’s bandcamp pages are rich with notes on the song writing, recordings, and the musicians she collaborated with on this project. We were lucky host her a few times throughout the recording of what are supposed to be her last official releases. We certainly hope there are more!
Township – Life Goes On (Until it Don’t) EP (BC)
Township are back with their third EP of 70’s flavored mustache rock. This stuff is great if you like great stuff. Loud guitars, rocking drums, guitarmonies, harmonies, synthmonies (ok, I’m not sure about that one). But still, you’d be hard pressed to find fault with this stuff. Ed V produced, Pat DiCenso recorded and mixed it with a little help from Matt Tahaney. Get all this stuff from Bandcamp. We hear there’s more coming next month!
Skrillex Visits Studio A
So, turns out Skrillex is playing at Harbor Lights tonight. (I guess it’s also called something else now, but out of respect for our vintage gear, I use vintage venue names.)
Anyway, with Tall Joe Tooley overseeing the session in Studio A, Skrillex and a couple of friends worked on tunes till the wee hours. We heard they even tracked some GANG vocals; And they upped the laptop count (those running music software) in Studio A’s control room higher than ever.
As the Sparrow – The Painter’s Wife (RT)
Sounds like As the Sparrow used every instrument in the building and a few more they brought with them for their Rubber Tracks session in Studio A. They mention the word swing on their Bandcamp page, and I’m dubbing this stuff Indie Swing… Fiddles, trumpet, piano, boy/girl vocals, drums, guitars – there’s something for everyone. Even what sounds like tape hiss! An instrument you might not hear while your new vinyl is popping and crackling on the turntable.
