Address:

Q Division Studios
363 Highland Ave,
Somerville, MA 02144.
Phone: 617 623 3500

VERY IMPORTANT: Our access has changed!
We are still accessible from the parking lot, in the back of 363 Highland Ave., behind the (now defunct) laundromat. Turn down Whipple Street and take a left into our parking lot. Studio A’s double load-in doors (painted gray) are visible, and to their right, around the corner, is a short staircase that leads to our office door – our buzzer is on the right.

A business called Altitude is further back – if you’ve reached them, you’ve gone too far. A business (confusingly) called Recorded Future is  in the space we USED to occupy; we’re nestled between these two companies.

If you’re having trouble finding us, please call us or your engineer.

PARKING: There’s parking in the back of the building.

By subway:
Take the Red line (towards Alewife) to Davis Square, use the College Avenue exit from the subway, take a left onto Highland Ave. Walk two blocks (past the Rite Aid pharmacy, Chris’s Garage, a laundromat, and finally a consignment shop), away from Davis Square. Take a left onto Whipple St. The entrance to Q Division is around the back, in the corner of the parking lot. The door is marked Q Division (#7). This walk should take you about 5 minutes. If you’ve passed Q’s Nuts, you’ve gone too far.

By car from Porter Square:
Go north on Mass Ave. past the Porter Square T station, Toad, etc. At the first light (there’s a church on the corner), take a right onto Beech. Follow until it ends at a “T” intersection. Make a right and then an immediate left onto Willow, with the bicycle store to your right. Take Willow to your second traffic light, and then go left on Highland Ave. Take your first right onto Whipple. Q Division is around the back, in the corner of the parking lot. The door is marked Q Division. (#7).

From New York and Points West:
Mass Pike East to Exit 17 Newton / Watertown. Go straight through 4 sets of lights, almost back onto Mass Pike. At last fork (after fourth set of lights) bear left onto Charlesbank Rd. Follow Charlesbank as it swerves around to the right. At bottom of hill take a right onto Nonantum Rd. (you will be on this road for a 2-3 miles). Follow signs for Boston, pass IHOP, the Charles River is on your left. After 2+ miles, at major fork, follow signs for Arlington/Fresh Pond (left hand fork). Go through lights, across bridge. Bear right after bridge, follow signs for Alewife, Route 2. Don’t take second fork to the right onto Memorial Drive, don’t take 3rd fork left onto route 16. Straight up hill, at 3rd light, at top of hill, take right onto Huron Ave. At third light, make a left onto Reservoir St. Reservoir turns into Walden St.
Follow to end (KFC) Take a left onto Mass Ave. and then an an immediate Right onto Russell St. Follow to end at a “T” intersection, make a right onto Highland Ave. (Chris’s Garage on left, then laundromat.) Look for red brick building, 363 Highland. Take left onto Whipple St. and left into the parking lot. Entrance to Q Division is in the rear, in the corner of the parking lot.

From Points North:
Take Rt. 93 South and get off at the Rt 16 E (toward Revere) exit. At end of ramp, Go right, across Mystic Ave, onto Harvard Street. Take Harvard Street all the way until you get to a big rotary. Go 4/5 of the way around onto Broadway. Take 4th right onto Willow Ave. Follow until major intersection at Highland Ave. Go right onto Highland. Take your first right onto Whipple St. Go left into parking lot. Entrance to Q Division is in the rear, in the corner of the parking lot.

Thank you everyone for acknowledging Q through the Thank you everyone for acknowledging Q through the BMA’s - we’re lucky and grateful to our incredible engineers, producers, musicians, and interns (a top notch crop from 2015 seen here!), who - through their love of music and musicians - all come together to make recording at Q the special experience it is. Can’t wait to see what 2021 brings and to get together in person again. Be safe everyone!

A few weeks ago we took delivery of Mitch Easter’s Chamberlin M1. With analog tapes that are a time capsule from a forgotten era, this magical machine has the sounds of vibes, female voices, male voices, cello, harpsichord, violins, flutes, and french horns...
We have a bit of an embarrassment of riches of analog tape samplers at Q, but as you might know or can guess, these beasts are incredibly temperamental and not always on their best behavior, but when they're working well there's nothing quite like these incredible machines.
