Hillary Reynolds Band – Honey, Come Home (Video)

June 25, 2014 by Rafi

Honey, Come Home is the first song and video to be released from HRB’s upcoming album, The Miles Before Us.

The Hillary Reynolds Band have been very hard at work, with Joe Tooley, in every room in Q Division, recording and mixing beautiful, lush songs. Honey, Come Home features bowed bass, cello, mandolin, acoustic guitar, quiet drums, piano (our baby grand), and Hillary’s beautiful voice (ok, and some lovely harmonies from the dudes too).

Love Love – Murderpedia (Video)

June 23, 2014 by Rafi

Love Love were back in Studio A over the weekend mixing some tunes with Matt Tahaney. This tune, Murderpedia, is from a previous batch of songs that they cut with Matt and Ed in Studio B. The song takes its name from a website that documents homicides… Cheerful!
Awesome video shot and edited by Paul Janovitz – tons of shots of Studio B, and the Midway Cafe!

Ed Romanoff – Must Have Done Something Right (Video)

June 10, 2014 by Rafi

This is a great little video in which Ed Romanoff and his dog mull over all the things that could have hindered their friendship. Somehow, the friendship survives.

I drink all your good whiskey, sprawled out on your couch
I pass out watching wrestling, but you never throw me out
I know just being with me would kind of hurt your pride
Lucky for me you don’t care what people say
I talk too much and I laugh too loud
I know you hate it when I leave…

Recorded and mixed by Matt Beaudoin, and produced by Crit Harmon. Must Have Done Something Right is from Ed Romanoff’s eponymous 2012 debut.

John Powhida International Airport – Airport Life (BC)

June 4, 2014 by Rafi

If you feel like you’ve been waiting a minute for the new JPX album, you’re probably right. But, it’s been worth the wait!

The new release from John Powhida International Airport finds our hero J-Po (and an all-star cast) in top form. 15 songs of smooth soul, funk, rock, and prog-art madness on a range of subject: Relationships, drinking, procreating, traveling, playing hide and seek, the mad world of music, and the people who make it. Horns, pulsating synths, guitarmonies, searing guitar solos, mad harmonies; this album has it all.

Jon Lupfer co-produced and engineered a many of these tracks, and others in the Q family of engineers also helped along the way.

My personal favorites? It’s hard to choose when you’ve got an album of great tunes like this, but Ridgfield Park always brings a smile, and Airport Life with its nod to Bowie and Zappa is a real blast.

Related: We released a JPX 45 a few years ago as part of our Rock and Soul 45 series. You can pick it up here. It has two songs on it – Daddy’s the Man, b/w Surrender To The Disco Knightz.

Session Americana – Tracking in Studio A (Gallery)

May 29, 2014 by Rafi

Session Americana hunkered down for a tracking party in Studio A for three days. We lost count of how many people were involved! The room was setup for a party, and a party was indeed captured. Engineering the festivities was Matt Beaudoin; to add a bit of drama to the mix Mrs. Beaudoin was due today, the 29th of May!  The Mayor was at the ready, should baby Beaudoin arrive (as of the posting of this gallery, there’s still no news of a baby).  Sean Cahalin assisted, and our crack staff of interns was on hand, as usual.  Here are some pictures from the session!
