It’s what happens when you take the burning talent of Abbie Barrett and the production (and bass) skills of Q Division’s studio manager, Ed Valauskas – Take it in Stride is a whiplash of a record, and tight doesn’t even begin to describe it. Recorded in Studio A and mixed by Pat DiCenso. You can find more of Abbie Barrett’s music here: http://abbiebarrett.com

Slight Bight is a vehicle for Gavin McCarthy’s songs. Gavin’s songs are catchy and tuneful while still allowing for exploration, especially in sections that feature Andrew Stern on guitar. Gavin performs quadruple duty – playing bass, drums, guitar, and singing! Could have named the band Quad Bight.
You might have heard or seen Gavin play drums in Karate, E, The Confessions, Cul de Sac, and many other Boston area indie bands.

Sound of Boston recently checked out the band’s debut, which they worked on with Matt Tahaney. They have this to say:
The album, which was recorded at two Somerville studios—Q Division and Phoenix Down Recording—is a 35-minute work of shining horns, shuffling drums, and rippling electric piano, organ, bass, and guitar. In “Galapagos,” guitarist Alex Mijailovic breaks into a solo you might mistake for a Carlos Santana melody. “You Got Me Bad” is so tight it could well have been produced by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars (the album was produced by Joe Bagale of the Mickey Hart Band).
Read the rest of the review, and here a preview of the album at the Sound of Boston website.
