Blue Ribbons

The Blue Ribbons – Fooling Around

May 6, 2014 by Staff Engineer

The Blue Ribbons, with some help from Gipsy Pixel video production, perform their song “Fooling Around” for a live studio audience, recorded and mixed by one of our senior engineers, Matt Beaudoin. With bluesy and sizzling prowess, The Blue Ribbons land and detonate with an upbeat original of theirs. Described as “Ray Charles and Tom Waits on a pirate ship with Sun Ra and Captain Beefheart,” they combine “upbeat disillusionment and celebratory fatalism with musicianship.” You can find more of their music here: https://theblueribbons2.bandcamp.com

The Blue Ribbons

March 10, 2014 by Rafi

The Blue Ribbons, a band familiar to anyone who’s set foot in Toad in Porter Square on a recent Tuesday night, recorded AND shot a completely live album in Studio A, in October of 2013.
They spent an afternoon setting up the band: Mike Castellana plays guitar, Jeff Charland and Tauras Biskis on bass and massive drums respectively, and bandleader James Rohr on our baby grand and synths. The Blue Ribbons sound a little like the Band at moments during their set at Q. They can extend a song, or keep it simple and quick. They’re all great players who are busy in multiple bands around town.
On the Q Division end of things we had Matt Beaudoin engineering the recording, and Joe Tooley working sound in the room.
The folks from Gypsy Pixel brought multiple cameras and shot both sets. They have released four videos, and a full length LP (which Matt mixed and mastered).

Here’s one called Foolin’ Around:

The Blue Ribbons – Magdalena

February 3, 2014 by Staff Engineer

Here’s a take of The Blue Ribbons performing Magdalena for a live audience in Studio A, no gimmicks necessary thanks to a beautiful real time video production by Gipsy Pixel. With one fluid performance, the Blue Ribbons rip on through with a rare and composed energy, recorded and mixed by one of our senior engineers, Matt Beaudoin.

You can find more of their music here on Bandcamp
