Charlie Chesterman – Carolina Blue (BC)

October 27, 2013 by Rafi

Band and Crew - Charlie Chesterman Session
L-R: Jim Haggerty (bass), Pete Weiss (producer), David Charles (guitar/backup vocals), Pete Linnane (organ/backup vocals), Samantha Linnane (guitar/backup vocals), Jeff Norcross (drums/percussion), Charlie Chesterman (lead vocals/guitar), Loyd Johnson (assistant), Rafi Sofer (engineer). Photo by Jim Haggerty.

The last studio recording by Charlie Chesterman was cut live in Studio A with a band of Charlie’s friends. The result is this lovely tune, Carolina Blue. Rafi and Pete Weiss engineered the recording, and Pete mixed it up in Verdant on his Neve. It appeared on a compilation called Solid Gold Electric Chestnut Dispenser, which is available here. Proceeds from sales of this song and record benefit the friends of Charlie Chesterman. Read about Charlie’s life here.

Das Muerte – EP2 (BC)

October 17, 2013 by Rafi

Joe Tooley recorded and mixed this assault of math-metal-rock. Odd time signatures, saturated heavy guitars, thundering double bass drum pounding, and screaming vocals that are a reminiscent of  Mr. Bungle, and a little of Killing Joke. Studio A hasn’t sounded this angry in a minute.

Melissa Ferrick – The Truth Is

July 24, 2013 by Rafi

In 2013 Melissa Ferrick was back in studio A with a batch of killer tunes and great players (Richard Gates, Natalia Zuckerman, Forrest O’Conner, Matt Pynn, Steve Scully, Dave Brophy). The resulting album was mixes by Trina Shoemaker (and recorded by Q’s Rafi Sofer).

Check out this super cool video!
