Patty Larkin – Bird in a Cage

March 4, 2020 by Rafi

Patty Larkin’s newest album is out; it’s one of the last records Mike Denneen worked on, and Patty dedicates the album to him:
“This album is dedicated to the memory of Mike Denneen, my collaborator, co-producer and musical compass. Mike moved through the musical landscape with grace, ease, humor and brilliance, all the while “changing to a word”: love.”

Q Division featured in Tape Op

July 15, 2010 by Rafi

tapeopTape Op magazine is the only studio magazine that anyone we know ever READS, so we were psyched that they wanted to do a feature on Q Division. I’m afraid the entire interview is only in the magazine itself (available for free, in both print AND digital formats!), but you can read some and see the extra photos on the Tape Op website.

Superlow – Going Out Heavy

July 10, 2005 by Rafi

superlow

MusicToday explains “Superlow is a hard rock trio that channels teenage angst into a fiery sound that’s all grown up. Their music evokes the youth experience of smoking after school, working dead-end jobs and getting attention from pretty girls. Ed Thill’s (vocals, guitar) gravelly voice sings of late nights, lust, rejection and redemption. Mark Thill (drums) slaps the skins like a man possessed, and Pete Abojoli (bass, vocals) lays down a rhythm that keeps the band grooving even through their angriest tracks.” Emusic gave this album a solid 3 stars .
Recorded and mixed by Rafi Sofer, Matt Tahaney, and Matt Beaudoin at Q Division,

The Vodkasonics – “take her to the zoo!”

October 10, 1998 by Rafi

vodkasonics zoo
A fan states ” This band sounds like a harder and grungier Squeeze. I saw them play at Brownie’s in NYC and picked up the CD at the show. The first song has been boppin’ in my head since I played it. If you like pop and rock and roll, you’ve got to try this album of awesome ditties.”
