Caspian – Dust and Disquiet

dust and disquiet

We were pleased to host North Shore band Caspian while they tracked another full length at Q. They brought Matt Bayles (he’s worked with all sorts of well known/heavy bands, such as Isis/Mastodon) with them, and it sounds amazing. The record is richly textures and layered, and the band made use of pretty much every […]

Skrillex and JT

So, turns out Skrillex is playing at Harbor Lights tonight. (I guess it’s also called something else now, but out of respect for our vintage gear, I use vintage venue names.) Anyway, with Tall Joe Tooley overseeing the session in Studio A, Skrillex and a couple of friends worked on tunes till the wee hours. […]

Brother & Co. – Unknow You (BC)

Brother and Co. – Unknow You (2013) – Engineer (Recording, Mixing), Percussion

Joe Tooley recorded and mixed this full length from locals Brother & Co.  The band is led by Josh Pritchard of Ruin/Renewal. Unknow You is often quiet, introspective, alternative/Americana sounding tunes with whispery vocals, expansive drums, and textured guitars. Did we mention heartache? There’s some of that too. The band features a stellar rhythm section: […]

Das Muerte – EP2 (BC)

Das Muerte – E.P. 2 (2013) – Engineer (Recording, Mixing, Mastering)

Joe Tooley recorded and mixed this assault of math-metal-rock. Odd time signatures, saturated heavy guitars, thundering double bass drum pounding, and screaming vocals that are a reminiscent of  Mr. Bungle, and a little of Killing Joke. Studio A hasn’t sounded this angry in a minute. Ep 2 by Das Muerte

Q Division featured in Tape Op

tapeop

Tape Op magazine is the only studio magazine that anyone we know ever READS, so we were psyched that they wanted to do a feature on Q Division. I’m afraid the entire interview is only in the magazine itself (available for free, in both print AND digital formats!), but you can read some and see […]
